Our People
Owner
Adam J. Lohonyai, M.Eng., P.Eng.
Though originally from Hamilton, Adam began his engineering career in Edmonton, where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Alberta. Adam worked for the university as a research and teaching assistant for nearly 4 years, where he taught the weekly seminar portion of the Mechanics of Materials course to second-year engineering students. The research projects Adam worked on covered a broad range of topics, including steel, masonry, structural stability, building envelopes, and concrete deterioration. Adam has published papers in several peer reviewed journals, including the ASCE Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities, and was awarded an Outstanding Paper Award by The Masonry Society in 2019. Adam began his structural engineering career with a small firm in Edmonton, Alberta while completing his Masters degree, where he gained experience designing wood, steel, and concrete structures that included houses, low-rise commercial buildings, pedestrian bridges, industrial equipment supports, fall arrest anchorages, and roll-over protection structures. Adam also evaluated various custom-made spreader bars, lug plates, jack stands, and other miscellaneous components in order to determine the safe load-carrying capacity for the client.
In 2014, Adam joined a forensic engineering firm in Edmonton, where he specialized in the investigation and repair of structures damaged in various types of incidents, including fire, explosion, wind, vehicle strike, tree strike, ground vibrations, and construction errors. Adam moved back to Ontario in 2015, where he continued to work as a forensic engineer for the firm Origin and Cause Inc. Adam has been involved with more than 400 structural investigations in Ontario and Alberta. Adam established Eximius Engineering Ltd. in 2017 to provide structural engineering services for small projects. As the company's principal structural engineer, Adam is responsible for designing and reviewing all Eximius Engineering projects.
